PE
The intention of the Physical Education curriculum is to enable children to develop knowledge, skills and vocabulary in a broad range of sporting activities, as well as developing values and transferrable life skills such as fairness and respect. Develop the enjoyment of physical activity and recognise the importance of it for physical and mental wellbeing.
The curriculum builds on children’s ability to work collaboratively as a team. This in turn develops their resilience, responsibility, integrity and communication skills. At Lodge Farm we intend, through sports, for children to experience the feeling of camaraderie amongst the pupils of a group, enabling them to cooperate and work well together.
At Lodge Farm, we will aim to give every pupil a fair opportunity to access the components of our PE curriculum in order to reach the following objectives:
- Children to leave with a positive relationship to physical health, activity and personal wellbeing.
- Children to use physical education to develop their understanding of competition, including: fair play, sportsmanship, team work, passion and playing within the rules.
- Children to have thorough knowledge of the basic skills needed to access specific sports.
Music
At Lodge Farm we want all children to gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.
We seek to develop enjoyment and a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the importance of all types of music, and an unbiased respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life.
We are committed to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community, and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts. Where possible, we use the extensive resources at the neighbouring music centre to enhance our curriculum.
Science
In science we aim to build a deep understanding of the body of knowledge and skills built up through experimental testing of ideas. Science is also a methodology, a practical way of finding reliable answers to questions we may ask about the world around us. Science in our school is about developing children’s ideas and ways of working that enable them to make sense of the world in which they live through investigation, as well as using and applying process skills.
We encourage children to be curious and ask scientific questions beginning to appreciate the way science will affect their future on a personal, national and global level. We enable children to plan and carry out scientific investigations, using equipment, including new technologies. We develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding. We help children to evaluate evidence and present their conclusions clearly and accurately.
